Petitioners, however, allege that Novak's source was Armitage, and do not allege that any of the three defendants against whom Mr. Wilson presses his First Amendment claim-Cheney, Rove, and Libby-caused that column to be published. "' Why would Rove admit to something that Armitage had already confessed to? Anyway, I still think that this was a trap set by Armitage get some payback on what Libby did by pressing for Powell(Armitage's boss and good friend) to give the speech in front of the U.N. and televised all over the world about Iraq's WMD's. Again, Libby wrote that speech. It's a bit unusual that the Vice-President's chief of staff would be involved in writing a speech of such importance. Maybe no one in the president's office wanted to touch it, or maybe Libby demanded that it be that way. I think we all know now that Cheney was pulling Bush's puppet strings in defense matters, but what I didn't realize is that Libby was doing the same to Cheney. He had Cheney eating out of his hand. So let's see...if Cheney was pulling Bush's strings and Libby was pulling Cheney's then the de facto Commander-in-chief was none other than Libby, unless someone was pulling his strings. <g> And one only needs to look into certain people that Libby brought into the defense dept to realize that there were other red herrings being dragged across the scene in order to get this Iraq war voted for and funded. Nailing Libby was an attempt to strike at the head of this cabal; a cabal that had led the US military into one of its most embarrassing episodes in history. Armitage was a military guy just like his boss, Colin Powell, so even without the disastrous speech, Armitage had sufficient motive to set up Libby. The whole thing has faint whiffs of Manchurian Candidatesque about it, i.e. - Cheney controls Bush, Libby controls Cheney. Libby wasn't even an elected official then, or any other time in his career. Scary... craig
