Halfway through the delayed broadcast of today's Alabama Spring Scrimmage game. The announcers Rece Davis, Sam "Mayday" Malone and Craig James are discussing their views of the newly released poll rankings. Boise State is ranked # 3 in the AP poll and # 5 in the coaches' poll. Rece Davis points out Boise State is unbeaten in 14 games, just like # 1 ranked Alabama, and they beat (highly ranked) TCU in their bowl game. Rece asks Mayday, "Where should they be ranked in the BCS?" Mayday replies, "I have them in 10th place, but after their opening game against Virginia Tech I do not think they will be in the top twenty. Craig James argues, "No, that's not a bad loss, Mayday....after they lose to Virginia Tech they should still be in the top fifteen." Someone else off-camera chimes in, "(so and so) has them at number three and even after getting thumped in an away game by Virginia Tech, that's a quality loss, they still deserve to be number ten at the end of the year." Craig says, "I'm not saying they are going to get thumped, but I'm using your scenario, IF they lose, they could still be... Mayday interrupts, "...a double digit victory for Virginia Tech." I am smiling and wincing at the same time. I am glad to hear so much confidence in Va Tech but Boise State is a great team with an explosive offense. Of course I thought the same thing about Miami at one time until the Hokies defense shut them down. And I have watched VT self-destruct against lesser teams than Boise State. Disclaimer: I do not keep up with the stats on any of these players and match-ups. I leave that to you. All I know is I will be looking forward to this game. Let's see, if we beat the number three team in the country...
