>>What, if anything, do congressmen do during recess ?<<

Fund-raising, same as when they're in session.

David -

I've heard that congress will be in recess starting this week until late January or February.

They do start recess this coming week.

If you're at all concerned, now is the time to get on the phones/e-mail to drown the congressional/senate aides in LOUD cries for action.

Proposing legislation & getting it passed are different ativities. Senator Bennett & Congressman Leach are tossing up trial balloons to see what the reaction is.

Now's the time to tell these folks to get their butts in gear...be sure to hit on your own reps because they (the aides) will listen...
Remember these are lawyers, they don't have a technical clue in their body... Bill Gates spoke at a Congressional caucus (informal meeting) way back sometime in '96 & totally tossed off Y2K as irrelevant, at which point the early crusaders were forced into silence & the sleeping majority crowed: "See I told you this was a hoax! Mr Bazillions says so & he couldn't possibly be wrong!!"

For some ammunition you might want to surf on over....

The following uninformed reporting hurts the effort
to provide accurate awareness of the y2k problem.
I think the author is under the impression that the
y2k problem applies only to PCs.

The Age: Simple millennium bug solution claimed
theage.com.au

AN Australian software company claims to have found
a solution to the feared computer "millennium bug".
It will cost just $300.

Bruce Parker, chairman of MFX Research, last week
unveiled a program, Millennium Master, that he
said would find and destroy the millennium bug
with just one computer disc.

ALSO

Parker said vested interests were trying to
stymie a cheap, simple solution such as his.

"Instead of paying $20,000 a megabyte, this will cost
$2 a megabyte. Instead of taking an average six weeks
to fix a computer system, this will take six seconds,"
he said.

Will Companies waiting for the "silver bullet" be calling?

I understand that FBN is licensing their tool the
"Millennium Master" {;^})
