To all: News release, R&D;

The Alberta Research Council (ARC) and Global Thermoelectric Inc. (Global) have entered into a
$450,000 one-year contract to develop Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) for remote power generation.

Global, a Calgary-based thermoelectric generator manufacturer has recently acquired SOFC
technology from Germany. It is considered to be among the most advanced forms of power
generation that directly converts natural gas into electrical energy. Global has contracted ARC to
develop the ceramic cells needed to turn the lab-scale technology into commercially viable products.

''This is an excellent opportunity for ARC to be on the ground floor in the development and
commercialization of this new and promising technology,'' says ARC Manufacturing Technologies
Business Unit Manager Dr. Dave Ghosh. ''This agreement puts us in a position to strengthen our
advanced materials processing capabilities, potentially leading to the development of new
technologies for other industry applications.''
