Pixel Magic Provides Key Image Processor to JetFax for

ANDOVER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 7, 1997--

Industry Leader Chooses Pixel Magic to Help Bring Affordable Multifunction Peripheral to
Market

JetFax, an industry leader in multifunction fax machines, has extended Pixel Magic's presence in the
digital office equipment market by integrating the Pixel Magic PM-2mc compression processor in
its new JetFax M900 Series of multifunction fax machines.

Pixel Magic, a leading provider of advanced image processing semiconductors, supplies the digital
image compression technology that reduces fax transmission costs while increasing the efficiency
and performance of the system. More offices are turning towards multifunction peripherals (MFPs)
like the JetFax M900 Series to take advantage of the benefits of an "all-in-one" design. MFPs
have significantly lower cost versus separate stand-alone machines and require less desktop space.

Pixel Magic's PM-2mc, which serves both the multifunction fax and digital copier markets, solves
cost and speed problems that have concerned MFP manufacturers for years. When an MFP sends
a fax, the image is typically stored in memory until it is sent over the fax line. If the image requires
the entire amount of memory available, the MFP cannot perform additional functions, such as
copying, until it has processed the fax.

In the past, office equipment manufacturers have eliminated this problem by increasing the amount
of memory in the MFPs, so faxing and copying can run simultaneously. Pixel Magic's PM-2mc
utilizes JBIG compression, improving the compression ratio 40-180 percent over standard
compression, enabling manufacturers to reduce the amount of costly memory necessary for
simultaneous transactions.

Multifunction peripherals, such as the JetFax M900 Series, have revolutionized the office
equipment industry by leveraging the power of digital technology. When used as a copier, an
MFP's scanner need only capture the image once for making one copy or 100, significantly
reducing wear-and tear and maintenance costs.

"We used the Pixel Magic PM-2mc to maximize our performance, particularly with multitasking,"
said Rudy Prince, JetFax's chief executive officer. "Where other manufacturers use JBIG solely for
fax transmissions, we compress every scanned document into JBIG format to get the most use of
memory. With our new M920 model, we can scan, print, and fax on two lines simultaneously
without any loss of system performance. And for the fastest possible transmission speeds, our
M930 model supports Super G3 modem speeds of up to 33.6 Kbps with JBIG compression,
making it fully compatible with the new Canon 9000 and Panasonic 880 Super G3 fax machines."

>>>No because they makes CD-ROM controller but not CD-ROM!!!
But they have OPT-912 which can do upto 40x DSP.<<<<

ADPTec has a controller that will do 50X and has a firewire interface
upgrade.
