"Even with follow-up work, there are problems. I have noticed a couple of problems in papers:"

All fields or just medical papers....? About 25 years ago, Andy Grove, one of the founders of Intel, developed prostate cancer and in his attempts to learn about treatments he learned that authors of medical papers don't reference, compare, or include data of other workers who published on similar work... This is certainly not true for the physical sciences. Grove and his wife spent weeks searching literature and actually published his study in Fortune (Forbes?) showing the pros and cons of each cancer treatment....he developed a rating system depending on the patients conditions.....as a result he chose the seed implant treatment....

In the example you reference below, did you try and correspond with authors of the paper?
