my conclusion is that conservatism is a form of defect. Whether or not the root of the problem is neurological disability or a psychological disorder, I cannot be sure. There is evidence for either and likely it is a combination of both. The sooner people realize this, the sooner it can be fixed.

That attitude toward other political POV's is absolutely unacceptable on this thread. If that really is your conviction, please post elsewhere.

Calling political viewpoints psychological disorders is BS.

I think all political viewpoints can be valuable. It's the extremists, of ALL types, that mess up the world (at least imo).

Conservatives fill an important function (or could, when they are constructive) by putting the brakes on rapid change. The only problem I see is moderating the "brake". You don't want a lot of brakes on social justice issues- like equality for people of color, for example, or in an emergency, when something must be done.

I've studied the differences between "conservatives" and "liberals" for the past few years to a fair level of scientific objectivity and my conclusion is that conservatism is a form of defect. Whether or not the root of the problem is neurological disability or a psychological disorder, I cannot be sure.

ST, your comments veer away from the discussion of issues and in the direction of fundamentally why people behave a certain way. In labeling certain modes as defects you're not just being broadly judgmental but seem to imply that conservatism arises deterministically from the state a person is in, taking away (or ignoring) the ability of people to make their own considered decisions.

I can't begin to say what a can of worms this approach is. IMVHO this leads to all sorts of murky, obtuse discussions that are unlikely to get anywhere. I think sticking to issues has a better chance of achieving useful dialog, and analyzing whether a person's stand on an issue derives from bad genes or poor nurturing does not.

Cheers,

HD

Totally disagree. I would agree somewhat if the word "conservatism" was replaced with "any extremist/illogical political ideology". Again, I wouldn't say it is a defect either. The word "ignorance" would be better instead of "defect" because these folks just need some education or reasoning to turn them around.
