Many thanks for your very detailed response to my question. In my case, I've been using Corporate Bonds, Muni Bonds and GNMA's to generate cash income. These investments are held in Mutual Funds. Taxable investments are held in rollover IRA's and Muni's in taxable accounts. These are long term investments and I don't "worry" about the changes in the NAV's.

For growth, I trade equities such as Apple, HP, and various ETF's, etc.

Guess there's more than one way to play this game.
