Why HK and Finn kids excel in school. It has to do with what they see in the horizon.

(Leaving aside for the moment cerebral architecture of those individuals)

See Scotland and Austria amount of developers of economics.

Based on the limited resources they had in front of them, their brains were fully concentrated on extracting as much as possible from resources. Brain was not shared with anything else.

Similarly, Finn and HK kids have a limited horizon: Biggest part of their brains concentrates on extracting as much as they can from school.

Compare with a Brazilian kid who has got a wider horizon. Such kids share their brain widely. Thus not concentrating as much on extracting from school as a Sotuh Korean, HK, Singaporean or Finn kid.

What difference a horizon makes on a kid excelling at some activity.

Why do a Brazilian kid excel at football while a Finn, HK, or Singaporean do not?

The horizon of a Brazilian kid is limited while a Finn, HK and Singaporean is unlimited.

Level of income allows Finn, HK and Singaporean access to tennis, swimming, badminton, auto-racing etc.
Their sports prowess is Balkanized among all those sports' activities.

A Brazilian kid, level income he can devote time and effort to a single sport and since you don't need to be strong, fast or tall nor need to buy an expensive kit neither require access to a expensive facility.

WOW!! great discussion a few comments before i continue.

<<Why stop at $700B tarp money targeting banks? >>

becuz what no one seems to mention is that the big banks have already paid tarp back with a handsome profit for taxpayers or will do so....Even AIG will repay eventually. Duz anyone think that the stimulus money will ever see the light of day?

<<So why would anyone holding gold sell it here? Even the opportunity cost of holding gold has become negligible, with central banks everywhere holding interest rates near zero.>>

as everyone seems to agree bonds will eventually turn to powder then what "zero interest rates" and gold prices ?
