I agree that communism doesn't work, but I disagree that its a great idea. That is partially because of the fact that it can't work, if it can't work what's so great about the idea. But that isn't the only reason. To the practical failures I'd add the moral problem that ignoring or suppressing or violating people's property rights is wrong. If the communist collective was 100% voluntary than that point would go by the wayside, but "voluntary" isn't going to happen even at the level of a very small country.

As for capitalism tending to result in monopolies, I'd say that's wrong. Most monopolies are created by, or supported by government. In a more purely capitalist system you wouldn't have the restrictions on competition that you have today. (And if the companies are actually using force to compel people to do business with them, since the government will not do so, then you don't have a purely capitalist system, but instead you have rule by corporations.)
