Rotary Lime Kilns come in all sizes, from a couple of hundred tons per day to 3-5000 tons per day. Of course, several smaller kilns could be envisioned instead of a one big kiln or a single line plant.

Energy usage is enormous. I don't know if some waste heat can be recovered, but it would add to cap ex. Gases leaving a lime kiln may be around 500F. On the other end, the product is extremely hot (almost 2000F), and that heat too is wasted.

Wish I could comment on cost of a kiln, but of course it would depend on size. Ancillary handling equipment, storage, crushers, packaging, maintenance, etc. would all factor into the engineering and cost study.

Perhaps thermo potash kilns might be different. My experience is with the smaller Pulp Mill lime kilns.
