Compaq's two best selling Presarios are sub $1000. Your obsevations seem to be a little unscientific. Then again with all the well paid government people in DC maybe they can spend the big bucks. <G>

The data is collected by PC Data, I am not sure how they do it but it was for the month of August. You have to be a subscriber on their web site to get more info.

My point is this: You go into a computer store and look at a computer which costs less than $1000 and another model which costs $1500. You ask the salesperson how well the the lower priced model is selling, if others are buying it, etc. If the salesperson knows you are trying to decide between the two models, the guaranteed answer is that the low-cost model is a toy, it isn't selling well, you need to buy the more expensive system. The same reasoning works for going into any of these stores and asking how well the low-priced units are selling. You will not get a straight answer because the markup is less, and the store would rather not sell them.
