In the case of Bentway, it's because he's playing the role of devil's advocate. Ask yourself why he brings up beliefs that he himself doesn't subscribe to. It's all meant to divide-n-conquer. Make you feel uneasy with your fellow conservatives, some of whom might believe in the Book of Mormon. Same thing with his advocacy of extremist Islam. He obviously doesn't believe in it, but as long as it doesn't (directly) affect him, he can use it any way he feels like. Lots of devil's advocates on the Internet. Just look at Perez Hilton.
