Elmer, <you believe Intel was lying when they announced reprogrammable
microcode. How can I reason with someone who thinks like this?>

Like what? What exactly was announced? Maybe I need to search Intel
site for "reprogrammable microcode" one more time? Last time I tried
the search returned 0 documents out of 18724.
Besides two irresponsible yellow-press publications about
"patchable microcode" there is no evidences whatsoever that
this thing exists.
All this could be a plain misinterpretation of some real microprogrammability combined with marketing attemps to save the product ass, and to fool ignorant investors like yourself.

However, the fastest reprogrammable
devices are having hard time to cope with 100MHz clock rate,
nothing close to 200-300MHz that is required for modern
microprocessors. Otherwise it would be no problem to build a completely downloadable microprogrammed CPU like so-called "soft modems", and forget all problems/bugs. No such thing exists at
speeds above 100MHz yet, and probably never will if you want a competitive CPU.

Have a nice evening.
