Good point GG. ElM really should apologize for letting that nasty animal roam free when it was "his" stream. Apologies are meaningless unless the person apologizing figures it out themselves and realizes they have done wrong and ingratiatingly seeks redemption. I have had cause to apologize many times.

Wading through the jungle of ignorance in our heads, it's impossible to do much and not have cause to apologize. Even with the huge growth of our brains since chimpoid times we blunder constantly despite trying not to.

It's currently fashionable for politicians and others to apologize for things that have nothing to do with them. Such as apologizing to Amerindians for wrongs done 150 years ago. Nobody alive now did anything to those people, none of whom are alive now. Barack apologizing to some half-pie descendant means nothing. It would be as silly as Barack apologizing to Michelle for what his ancestors didn't do to her ancestors. Of course, if they can use the apology as an excuse to move money from the taxpayers to the "victim" then the apology makes sense = another way to rob people to give to the undeserving.

Many people have had property confiscated by governments. It's still happening. I'd like an apology from Barack and Helen Clark and John Key for taking money from me by force. They don't do that though. In fact, they are coming up with ways to increase the amount of money they take from me.

Their apologies lack sincerity, even if they were apologies they can reasonably make on behalf of other long dead people to long dead people.

Box can't reasonably apologize because a snake can't apologize for being a snake. Only sentient beings can apologize when they realize they did wrong.

Buffett and Gates on Chinese mission

Having persuaded many of their billionaire peers in the US into giving away chunks of money, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are travelling to China to host newly minted Chinese tycoons to sell them on the value of philanthropy.

The Chinese are hard at a work doing philanthropy here in Africa.

No need to tell them how it is done.

Florida preacher called for people around the world to set fire to copies of the Koran, is now at the center of an international conflagration.

Jones' plan to set ablaze thousands of copies of the Muslim holy book on Sept. 11, a day he's dubbed International Burn a Koran Day, has become a flashpoint. What has been seen for weeks as a strange front in the culture wars, this weekend became a front in America's real war, with Gen. David Patraeus weighing in to say he believed the display would be detrimental and dangerous to U.S. troops fighting in Afghanistan.
