I evaluated the question you posed for the DJIA.

If a Friday is the final trading day of a week and a Tuesday is first trading day of the following week, the DJIA's 1-day change on the corresponding Friday is as follows:

1929-2010:

176 UP and 116 DOWN or 60.27 percent UP

1929-1999:

156 UP and 85 DOWN or 64.73 percent UP

2000-2010:

20 UP and 31 DOWN or 39.22 percent UP

Is that what you wanted to know?
