I agree, I am very surprised to see the information about the hole in the keyboard in such a high-profile publication as PC Week. This story is a shocker because ULBI just announced the notebook deal a couple of weeks ago. It was a big risk for them to come out with an announcement so far ahead of actual production and now it will damage the entire marketplace for the technology.

I would guess that ULBI will sink to $12-13 on Monday and maybe down to $10 within a few days. If VLNC gets ensnared they might slip to $7 but I don't think they would go much below that.

This kind of problem is NORMAL when bringing up a new technology. Just because most technologies don't cause open flames upon failure doesn't mean they go smoother - large (statistical) test programs are essential to avoiding customer problems. I would fully expect stories like this from every vendor at some point within 6 months of first shipment (unless they are covered up) because of the un-conservative nature of the small companies involved (compared to the large Japanese vendors). Some problems just take a million units built to find...and nobody can afford to throw away a million units just to find that problem. There are some 10+ field failures a year with today's lithium-ion and you never even hear about them.
