They could always cut more production if they can't gain more efficiency. There's no rule that says they have to hire more people if their margins are rolling over.

After this month, I expect that most of the negative job shocks are out of the way as the big hiring spurt from the Census is probably withdrawn from the Labor market. The 125K job reduction this month should be the last of the big job losses from the temp jobs that were created for the census. I sure hope we're not paying 99 weeks of jobless benefits for the people that had temp jobs for that project. But, it wouldn't shock me in the least.
