ah... that's a bit different. here are those stats. approximate % of up days on the day before a major holiday:

New Year Day 80
MLK 50
Good Friday 70
May 23 80
Memorial Day 60
July 4 50
Labor Day 70
Turkey Day 80
Christmas 70

Also, before you ask .... The next question is, "in general, what's the performance on any Friday." I haven't calculated that myself precisely but on some other board a very smart fellow did a pretty big study, in my opinion. Here was his basic conclusion.... in a bull market, Fridays are down. in a bear market, Fridays are up. Well, you might say not shit. But his data and analysis were different and specific, and they took into account a definition of bull and bear market differences. The one thing I vaguely remember is that in a bear market, the coorelation was not quite as strong. I wish I kept his post.

Frankly, that finding is much more powerful to me than any of this holiday stuff.
