I agree mph, but we also need a person who will appeal to independents...........a very wishy washy group of voters if ever there was one. Besides his conservative bonafides, Reagan had an incredible sense of ease about him that was enduring and comforting............and let's not forget he was a he. I'm not trying to put people in a box here, but I'd guess one reason some men would vote for Palin is because she is a "babe."

Isn't it true that a lot of people voted for The One because he's Black, and Lordy Lordy he certainly did talk a good line that was bought hook line and sinker.

People vote for the darnedest of reasons.

You could trust that Reagan would stick with his principles because he understood them, understood the basis and history of them, had studied and thought about them before he adopted them.

He had conviction. That is what is missing today.

Very well stated mph.

GW's no child agreement with Kennedy was part of the Bush administration's "compassionate conservatism" which doesn't even sound good. Too many syllables.

It's too early to know, but at this point, Palin is closer to the Reagan mold than the Romney, Huckster types etc. The months ahead will tell us more as other candidates actually surface.

The republican primary debates will hopefully show us someone with true leadership skills, not afraid to speak their mind, with good instincts and good on their feet. And of course, their electability, as has been often discussed on this thread. Folks like McCain, Gingrich, Romney and Huckabee would surprise me to be the candidate. The demand for a fresh face is great, particularly one who has no ownership of the destruction of the economy and many conservative principles.
