I do not think her image is beyond repair among independents. In short, I would not count her out.

I personally know one independent who has not counted her out.

It looks to me that the Left in the end lost the healthcare fight. The problem is that the Right didn't win either. What they ended up passing - because they HAD to pass something - is a strange, very complex arrangement, with massive new bureaucracies. Just a bunch of money and power changing hands, flowing towards politicians and their appointees. There seems to be a built in mechanism for private insurers to fail - which (I think they hope) would open an opportunity for real socialisation.... but there is no way to tell what the power balance will be by the time that happens.
