Castro would win a popular vote election.

He might, even if it was a free and fair election, or he might lose in a landslide, there really isn't any way to know as long as he is still in power. In countries like Cuba, poling either isn't done, is kept secret, or is distorted (or simply lied about) to make the government look better. In terms of this specific question, I would expect its "isn't done".

Even if he would win that isn't exactly very relevant to the point under consideration. "Popular" doesn't imply "honest".

LOL Yeah, he'd win as long as no one else was allowed on the ballot. Why do you think they don't allow opposition parties? If Castro thought he could win an election fair and square, he'd have an election to show how popular he was.

I remember that boy - his mother lost her life and nearly Elian too trying to escape the hellhole Castro created.
