An important factor to keep in mind here is whether your video will be delivered over the digital pipe or if you are receiving that over an analog channel (coaxial/HFC), or some other medium. If all you need is Internet access, then I'd agree that your residential requirements may be satisfied for some time to come with ~ 50 Mbps. If, however, you also intend to lump your two or three concurrent HD or other emerging receiver requirements to your Internet access, in addition to voice and maybe an online gamer or musical collaborator in the home, then you'll likely require more than 50Mbps before not too long, fwiw.
