Re Deflation:

Deflation is here in the techs, Why can't DRAM makers raise prices in a growing unit market? Too much supply, largely from Asia, Why can't disk drive makers raise prices and WDC takes a major hit even though unit growth is strong? Too much capacity in the industry? Why are the automakers not going too make as much money next year even though they are still selling tons of vehicles? Overcapicity problems. No one can raise prices and many insustries are slashing them (Compaq).

All this makes it seem like a good time to be in cash (or synthetic cash with strategic shorts). Iqbal makes me too nervous to be real short. But I think I will get bolder if the S&P gets up in the high 900's again.
