soup; There are several ways for low power spread spectrum packet radio links to be used for zero wire networking. You can make them good for 100-200 feet so and office can network without wires. There are also higher power units for more range, some with very directional capability for two buildings some miles apart to save the wires. however for long range and large data loads fiber is still supreme, althoug the radio links are getting there. The amatuer radio groups have been using them for years with the same ppp protocol as the web. There are a number of radio ISPs doing it and you use radio modems similar in capacity to 33.6K modems. Perhaps you have seen the ads in the mags. It is a godsend for places where you have to spend a firtune with union wire men to set up a network. I do not know the cost of each card/ext modem, but I suspect it must be under $200, althougthere will be many solutions with different prices/performance levels.
