October is the time of year that mutual funds start to book their losses for the year. The market direction may have more to say about whether on average a lot of mutual funds have more winners than losers than whether a double dip is anticipated.

I agree it is hard to figure out direction right now. Dale Bakers thread had an article on the presidential cycle. Normally they would be pumping extra money into pork barrel projects to make people feel better, but the cupboard is bare right now and people won't notice that they could have been worst off than they are now.

There is the old gypsy curse 'May you live in interesting times". It seems we are doing so,
