Not all government works the way your Faux News fantasies say that it does. There are successes and failures, and successes that are portrayed as failures by those who have a political agenda, and failures that are portrayed as success by those who have a different political agenda. Local police, fire, water, sewer, parks and roads are all public-sector functions that work well in most areas. Schools are controversial but I think it's because we get the schools that the polity wants, which are pretty bad. The public-sector military seems to be a lot more reliable than the mercenaries (like Blackwater) that the Rethuglicans have been hiring at triple the price.
