Re: "If you trusted them to vote for politicians who would support balanced budgets... One way or another you have a mistrust in the voters on some level...."

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Firstly... since folks have been voting for politicians who lied right to their faces for YEARS, who promised 'balanced budgets' if elected and then produced EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE later on... (and I am at least modestly AWARE of this sad political history)... I think it's fairly hilarious of you to posit that I might 'trust' folks to vote 'for' politicians who would balance budgets --- when the folks most likely THOUGHT that's exactly what they were doing over-and-over-again, election after election, only to have the football pulled away from them (like Lucy always did with Charlie Brown) at the operative time, then go big, bad SPLAT.

Absolutely screaming hilarious of you to expect 'trust' to be effective!

Actually, now that I think about it, that's a "two key lock".

EVEN IF we were to 'trust' the voters to only vote for righteous types who promise to 'balance budgets' there is absolutely no guarantee at all that the politician would ever DELIVER on that 'trust'. (Takes TWO to turn that lock.)

Which is EXACTLY why I would only trust to LAW, not to any particular 'fearless leaders' or the voters who may be swayed by the siren sounds which soothingly emanate from those leaders like the bleeps from sheep.

PREFERABLY I'd put my best 'faith' in the highest most rigorous law I could produce in this fine land: a direct and plain-worded amendment placed in our federal Constitution.
