Hmmm... Blame Al Gore ? I was not aware it was blocked. I assume the block is mostly related to money, like the Olympic coverage was. A US station would only want to carry Canadian coverage if it gave them most of the ad slots to sell. Ads in news slots are one of the best money generators for TV stations - that's why they can pay for all those news helicopters. Article on network that carried CBC for a few years - en.wikipedia.org CSPAN occasionally picks up CBC News - note the CSPAN does not need to carry advertising, as it is a public service from the cable companies. en.wikipedia.org Note that there's coverage of many other places - My cable provider has BBC and DW for free, and then multiple pay channels for Farsi/ Hindi/ Japan (2+) / China (>4) /Tagalog /and RTF from France. comcast.com XM satellite radio has some Canadian Channels in both languages. Canada news ENG 96, Sports FRENCH 97, French News and Talk 172. They did carry CBC news at one time, I think. I expect that was cut because Sirius XM did not want to pay for anything (they keep flirting with BK) ***** I expect that there is a lack of interest by most Americans unless they live near the border, and if they do live somewhere like Buffalo, NY or Detroit, they can get Canadian radio, Globe and Mail, National Post , etc. It appears that Canadian News may not be different enough for most people to pay for it, and most of the people with a strong interest in Canada live close enough to pick up radio and other media.
