OT -- amarksp, thanks, under what code section are you concluding that the FX gain or loss related to the sale of an equity security is treated as ordinary income? Sec. 988 (which is the only section that I am aware of that could serve to cause this result) clearly does not apply to this sort of transaction, see Sec. 988(c)(1).

If I ever buy a Canadian stock that pays a dividend I will take your point about dividends into account, thanks.

Thankfully your point about balance sheets is irrelevant to me. <g>
