I am not certain how much the tax-loss selling is a real phenomenon here. It is true that the only fund managers doing so would be those who bought in at a price above the current level. I also do not think the stock is being manipulated any further by short sellers. the only evidence that we have that the stock was ever manipulated by short sellers or their agents was the two point downward movement on heavy volume the day before the Morgan Stanley downgrade, followed by the 4-5 point loss the day of the dwongrade, with the downgrade made on an outright lie. At this point, if 1/10th of the potential of this stock is true, anyone shorting now would be doing so into extreme risk, and shorts have a hard enough time making money with their strategy as it is, if any of the popular literature is true. We're asking the stock to make a tremendous comeback in absolutely the worst market conditions imagineable. There is a lot of market-wide fear out there. There is the ongoing troubles with Asian economies, of which by anyone's estimation there is a lot more to play out. There is the current bullshit with Sadam. On the domestic front, there is the real worry by the Market that the employment picture will result in wage pressure and inflation, leading to a monetary response by Greenspan that will raise interest rates. Finally, millions of investors have already made stunning profits from the previous decade, and may be delighted to take them and run. This company does have a history of "bad news" swirling about it, whether the crap is true or not. For now, patience is an absolute must for this stock. Perhaps fortunately for me, I have no choice. I must wait on the stock, struggling to keep my head (and margin accounts) above water (30% equity.) To cut and run for me is to realize losses that can only be characterized as extreme. I do believe in the company and the management, and I do believe absolutely that the stock will recover. In this environment, it just will not be accomplished quickly. In that respect, the lesson in patience is being administered to me with an iron-fisted and unbending hand. when the market gods are wrathful they paint red with a broad brush. later, when their anger has cooled, the value artists will come in and touch up the painting with bits of green. at that time, cymer will shine. for now, they are shy and timid. jess.
