"How do Muslims deal with negative things that the supposed greatest prophet of God did and said and did and said in the course of spreading and teaching his faith?

I'm curious."

Really?

You'd have to go to someone more knowledgeable than me for that answer. But for starters, they don't go to sites like 'Prophet of Doom' to get their education. There are libraries written on the life of Mohammad, where every word is written in adoration, and as you said, this is where the information you've been feed was selected and obviously interpreted to appear as evil as possible. Maybe you could try reading an account which puts all of his circumstances into a contextual perspective. Context is everything and the context of his time and circumstance cannot be understood by the status quo upbringing of American suburbia 2010.

Every word and action was documented and authenticated by getting multiple eye witness accounts to corroborate each things into the Hadith. They know which foot he used to step into a room or out of it and which hand he held food in. When put into a context of actual circumstance things look much different. For example you describe him taking the widow of a beaten enemy as his wife so he could rape her. But the Islamic description of that circumstance is far different. I've heard it said that Mohammad sought to set an example of compassion with each of his marriages. But I haven't studied that to see how that was works.

I did a quick search and found this simple description of his marriage circumstance. Maybe this would be a place to start but I think you'd have to do a great deal more to get past the biases you've already been dealt.
