If you know what it means why do you misapply it?

Most of the organizations mentioned in the conversation can not be astroturf organizations, whether they are honestly saying what they mean, or serving as a conduit to Satan to bring doom to the world.

You could have narrowed your point, and specifically included only the organizations claiming to be part of a grass roots movement, excluding all the others but you didn't do so.

Also an actual grass roots movement that receives funding from an outside source doesn't become an astroturf organization. It has to be a deliberate deception, where a group is intentionally created to look like a grass roots organization, but is in fact anything but. So even for those the funding data could not possibly be definitive. You would have to have information about the deception itself.
