Ibexx, it may well be that in the future the sub 1k computer could prevail in the mass market. I'm not a technical expert but believe there is some similarity between the history of the camera and the computer as a consumer item. How many more brownie box cameras, instamatics and todays throw aways have been purchased than haselblads or leicas. And how many of those people who have bought those inexpensive, simple cameras understood Snell's law for the refraction of light or cared about the difference between the finest precision ground lenses of a rollei and the mass produced lenses of a Kodak? It's important that Intel address and dominate the cheap computer market so that it can become a cultural ikon, the brand name itself a synonym for computer chip. For the masses in this country, kodak meant camera for many decades. Let intel mean microprocessor for many more decades.

Ibexx,

>>I think the sub1K machines may be a "niche fad" for the time being, but I can't see it ever approach the main stream market sector.<<

My sentiments exactly. Witness the environment which allows this to happen.

GLUTS - dram, hard drives(see WDC 10-Q & Fujitsu dumping),Intel channels.

Question: How badly are the vendors bleeding? Are the margins paper thin? And with BTO processes will these gluts be as likely in the future?
