IT'S A RIP OFF!!!!!! HP First to Ship Handheld PC Featuring Windows CE 2.0 -- The HP 360LX Palmtop PC

I hope it backfires on them!

HP Announces Price Drop on the HP 320LX Palmtop PC
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1997-- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced it is shipping the HP 360LX palmtop PC with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) CE 2.0, the most recent addition to its award-winning line of HP handhelds. The HP 360LX palmtop PC is the first Windows CE 2.0 palmtop PC to ship and is expected to have an estimated street price of $699 (U.S.). Additionally, HP announced a price cut on the HP 320LX palmtop PC -- the original full-width-screen palmtop PC -- lowering its price to $499 (U.S. list). The price cut of the HP 320LX, combined with HP's ROM upgrade program, is expected to make the HP 320LX palmtop PC one of the most affordable palmtop PCs on the market running Windows CE 2.0.

''HP continues to lead the handheld industry by bringing to market the first Windows CE 2.0-based handheld PC,'' said Dennis Hamann, worldwide marketing manager for HP's Asia Pacific PC Division. ''By offering the latest innovations in mobile computing at affordable prices, HP is helping to advance the growth of the handheld market.'' Based on the Windows CE 2.0 operating system, the HP 360LX palmtop PC offers easy PC synchronization and compatibility with familiar business applications, now including Microsoft PowerPoint. Additionally, the HP 360LX palmtop PC joins the ranks of other computing assets that can be managed on the network, using HP TopTools and other DMI-compliant management applications. HP expects to deliver the management software for the HP 360LX palmtop PC in early 1998.

The HP 360LX palmtop PC offers other mobile computing advantages including a full-width, 16-greyscale, high-contrast screen with natural-white backlight, increasing visibility and clarity; a month-view PIM that makes time management and organization even more convenient for mobile professionals; and a dedicated storage slot for CompactFlash cards, leaving the PC card slot free for a modem connection. The HP 360LX palmtop PC also comes with 8MB of RAM, 10MB of ROM and improved performance and speed.

The HP 320LX palmtop PC, based on the original Windows CE operating system, was the first Windows CE-based palmtop PC to feature a full-width (80-column, 640 x 240-pixel) display. The HP 320LX palmtop PC has 4MB RAM, a backlit display and a CompactFlash card slot. With HP's ROM upgrade program, HP 320LX users can upgrade their machines to Windows CE 2.0 easily, providing immediate access to the latest applications and features of the new operating system.
