The goal is and has been to limit the perpetuation of an elite, wealthy class. Which it has. It is by no means perfect, but it does accomplish its goals reasonably. Why, then, is it that the Left is constantly complaining about how the gap between the haves and the have-nots is widening every day? (A fact, by the way, that is demonstrably true.) It just happens that, at the same time, the average standard of living of the poor in the US has increased hugely. What most people would call a "win-win". If you have to be poor, there is no better place on earth to do it than the United States.
