I think that's not right re: call to France. Cause footprint of the birds isn't that big. Nearest gateway from Vermont is either Texas or Canada. Neither one can see a bird that France can also see. Whether or not its the same bird that Bernies satphone sees from his chairlift in Vermont.

However, call to Venezuela,e.g. while outside Texas gateway's territory, could probably work way you describe, technically. I.e., same bird seen by Texas and northern latin american gateways. Don't know though if that's how he'd do it.

I find all this facinating.
