Both of these are excellent points. Carriers want to be able to sell the iPhone, because it makes more money for them. Verizon has a lot of good Android choices, but if given the chance, they will jump at the opportunity to add the iPhone to their lineup.

Exactly the same, I imagine. The only apples-to-apples comparison is at AT&T, where the plan requirements for any smartphone is the same as those required for the iPhone (eg, the $30 unlimited data adder). So unless the typical iPhone user needs more anytime minutes or is more likely to add text messaging, there isn't going to be any difference in ARPU between and iPhone subscriber or any other smartphone user.
