We aren't going to get a "perfect world" solution to this. I suspect we will get a "camel" out of it. Some sort of smaller Corps with no really defined mission.


Yes. That's how the Corps was designed. Sharpshooters on the upper decks, and rigging to provide cover to the sailors boarding enemy ships. Then they (because of their success) evolved into assault troops. I think they should concentrate on being a highly specialized unit and not try to be a junior Army. I remember my thoughts during khe Sanh in Viet Nam, that we were using an assault force for a siege defense.
