More tidbits from Andy Grove...

Intel Corp. -- whose fortunes have paralleled the growth of the PC market is now preparing for the fragmentation of that market, with plans for Intel-based computers that range from a stripped-down,
$500 model to a $500,000 multiprocessor server.

Although Intel continued to insist that the impact of low-cost
systems has been greatly exaggerated, Chairman Andy Grove took advantage of an annual analysts' meeting in Santa Clara
Friday to sound the death knell of the monolithic PC marketplace.

The PC market of the future, Grove said, will feature a series of related but distinct segments, based on processors and system
designs with wildly different capabilities. <snip>

This market may not recover anytime soon. The market, as a
discouting mechanism, right or wrong, is predicting cheap
PC's will have a substantial impact on everyone's margins.
This is becoming the prevailing psychology. How many quarters
will it now take for the truth to play itself out?

I'm expecting a solid-to-great 3d quarter from Dell but not
a blowout. A great earnings announcement may do little to
lift the stock in this environment. I think it would take
a collosal blowout of such a magnatude as to send analysits
scurrying for ther rulers to re-linearize growth projections.

Not trying to be a bear here, my posts speak volumes of
my bias. Just being a realist. You can't fight market
psychology, herd mentality or momentum. I've owned Dell
since it's IPO and how many times have I seen this before?

So don't freak out and think the world's ending if Dell drops
into the 50's. Hey, it COULD happen, and if it does,
BUY MORE!<gg>

No-one can predict short term price moves with any consistency
(sorry Hank) but we all have gut feelings about intermediate
(6mo) price moves. My gut's starting to feel queasy<g>.
My sense is we'll hit bottom in Jan/Feb98 slowly climb and start
to take off in April98. After that, new highs. I know, another
worthless prediction (and I hope the first part is wrong).

Keep this in mind. In just 5 quarters, Dell's quartelry
revenue will exceed 5Billion.
