First the Iranians said they would release the imprisoned hiker

"as an act of clemency to mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. " In other words an act of compassion in the name of the prophet.

Then they said this "compassion" has a price of $500,000. No money, no compassion.

Check me if I'm wrong but isn't this transparent venality in the name of Islam an insult to Mohammad? If not why not? If so where's the Muslim outrage?

Fine less, if you want to water down the definition of the word "persecution," then consider someone who chooses to get a bunch of facial piercings. That person will obviously get a bunch of stares, funny looks, and even some crass remarks or harassment.

Would you consider that person to be "persecuted"? Or does that not count because the piercings aren't religious or ethnic in nature?

How far do you want to go in watering down real injustice just because you feel guilty over discrimination?
