It's just something I remember reading, and it wasn't all that recent. I'd guess that you are correct that the ARPU is higher for all of the newer smartphones than for non-smartphones.

This article seems to back up that idea. It doesn't break out the iPhone separately.

It's still possible that iPhone users generate more revenue for the carriers than Android users, but I can't point to any data to support that idea.
