greg, they report seller to mm as one transaction and mm to buyer as another. that is what is referred to as double counting.

two transactions are counted to transfer stock from a reatil sell to another retail buyer.

When you buy a thousand shares of ASND, the market maker first sells it to you and then he goes out and buys a thousand shares in the market. So your purchase of your 1000 shares ends being 2000 shares on the tape, once when you buy it from the market maker, and a second time when the market maker buys it in the street. That doesn't happen on the New York.
