I received this from a friend of mine:

Yes it's true. Cookies can now destroy your computer.
They can install a virus which causes you hard drive to rearrange bits
and create bad sectors eventually destroying you hard drive.

Do not open email from people you don't know.
Don't browse to unfamiliar sites.

Someone actually infected one of the search sites 2 weeks ago, which in
turn infected all uses who hit the site in a 2 day period. I can't
remember which site it was.
They have since posted a virus scanner and eradicator for the self
replicating polymorfic virus they were inadvertently distributing.

Practice safe browsing.
Have 2 PC's.
