Comments on the following article?

diabetes.org

2nd paragraph speaks to the "number issue" The prevalence of ED in men with diabetes...from 3.5 million to over 11 million men (if you take high and low estimates of both numbers).

Andrew,

Thankyou for your response. You're correct about 800,000 being 25% of 3.2 million men. My calculated range of men with diabetes in the U.S. was between 5 million and 11 million depending on the study and criteria you used, and I used 5 million (instead of 8 million) to ultimately come up with my figure of 2.5 million TOTAL men in the U.S. with ED.

This is probably too low, but my original POINT (if that is at all relevant here) is that the commonly assumed total ED market of 20 million men seems overly optimistic if one goes back to look at the numbers. It's probably less than half that but depends on which criteria you use to calculate it. All relevant and nonhysterical critiques of these numbers are welcome.

Andrew, Re: 14 mill diabetics in the USA, 50% of whom have ED.<<
I agree tha t should have been 3.5 mill because I didn't factor in women.
The point that is being lost here though in Braddy's miscalsulations is
the true incidence of ED in the USA.
- IT IS 20-30 MILL!!
-Thse are NOT the AUA'a figures.
-this is the Nat Inst of Health 1993 consensus socference.

We are missing the 120 mill worldwide ED figure quoted in my originak DrKelley's Textbook of Medicine. Multiply that by a factor of 4 and you get over a 1/2 a bill of men world wide suffering from ED.
