Disability is available for people who can't take the backbreaking work. I think I'd prefer hard and fast rules, with compassionate medical exceptions.

Ohhhhh! If you try to take physically demanding jobs and stretch them out so people have to work until 70 every one of them will end up disabled. You really want to cripple people to make sure you get every single possible day of work out of them?

Well, we've hit the "agree to disagree" button.

As for fixing ss, my own preferred solution is not moving the retirement age back, but ending the cap. My own guess, fwiw, is that the commission will recommend some combination of items--moving the cap up, moving the retirement age up (slightly), and so on. The political viability will depend on how all those deals add up.

And the willingness of the Rep caucus to swallow some revenue enhancements.
