Once the telephone companies went digital they hit the mother load in profits yet they demonstrated even more how greed begets ever more greed.

Today, my cable company exudes the same behavior of avarice.
The internet will put them back in their place, eventually.

Looking back in time at land lines:

I forgot about most of that stuff! Remember long distance charges? The very idea of calling California from the Midwest was a rich persons extravagance, unless somebody died. And then you held it to a couple of minutes. An overseas call? Forget it.
