How would you measure that. If you have a well and then a half mile away you have another one, your not using much land, but counting a field like that has 100% used for oil the land area would be pretty big.

But however you calculate the land area, the important point is that the fossil fuels can mostly work without subsidies. Mass solar, isn't cost effective, it only exists because of the subsidies.
