Risk (unemployment, hunger, eviction, family disarray) was theory. Not reality. It was History told by old folks who lived through WWII and Great Depression.

Normal folks lived with a basic tenet: human progress meant Risk (unemployment, hunger, eviction, family disarray) had been erradicated by that very human progress.

It was a thing of the past since mankind (rich countries considered) had moved on beyond it.

That condition only affected people in countries that had not yet developed.

It was a big mistake.
