As people ascend to middle class, "just want to live from day
to day" they fall prey to politicians who poll them to find ways to use them.

They are fed a constant dose of media coverage to feed their realities. This material they are fed is fine tuned via polls (again) and whatever give them higher audience is what they get.

They care for "human progress", but is their flavor of human progress.

Now they are going to pay the bill. For they are looking for their government to save them. And the governments cannot.

As soon as Brazil improved in the 70s, people started behaving like this is the new reality. I did not buy it. I was able not to lose in the 'Lost Decade' because I was alert.

Saw same in Indonesia 20 years later. With the same outcome: They nose dived.

Two years ago I was talking with a Portuguese lady working for Siemens here and I was surprised:

She was talking like 'we the Europeans', as different from the rest and I sensed a bit of nose up in the air. I think wealth caught Iberia by surprise...
